Great concept, especially the vertical design being its best feature. As an advanced concept in Eco-science-fiction, I have always wondered if it would be possible to regenerate areas of the Ozone layer by artificial means. If something like this could be adapted as a very high altitude ozone generator platform, in large enough numbers to be effective. It would require a lot of miniaturizing of a power source, and a some form of compact ozone generator. Of course, it would require some form of super strong fabric or fiber composite that would be capable of withstanding the pressure and cold at the altitudes necessary for these to operate. Maybe the ideas full of hot air,(no pun intended) but your blimp project got me to thinking about the this two and a half decades old concept. Really great work!
Actually I never thought about a civilian version, but there should be plenty of usages for it. Communications, monitoring of traffic or (possible) forest fires, collecting weather data or patrolling sea borders to secure from illegal fishing, or waste dumping. Another military use could be submarine detection and ASW. It's main advantage, especially if equipped with solar panels (or even a small wind charger) it could stay in the air for extended periods working autonomously.
haha, are you kidding? I wish I could portray some of my ideas as convincingly as you do. You've always brought a lot of real world believability into your designs. I'd honestly assume you are actually a defense systems designer or something haha.
defense system designer?! Haha, I am biologist fiddling with sketchup in my spare time. But thanks for the kind words and I am happy to hear my stuff and intention of believability works out. Still love your style and think you're a amazing designer/concept artist. Dig your Blog btw. Now enough with the praising
Just put lots of them up in the air, with decoy/dummy balloons. Give the enemy too many things to shoot at, no need to over-engineer what is basically a drone weapons platform suspended to a big gas bag
Yeah it's modular. Cool it's recognizable. First four big cells which are then subdivided as well. It has Chaff and Flare launchers, but if they fail to work (e.g. bullets...) the cells help a bit. If too many of the aircells are destroyed, it has an emergency parachutes (the 3 boxes under the ring with the long antennas). The whole balloon will be blown off, and the chutes will open. And to soften the impact on the ground small airbags(from the boxes on the 'legs') will open. Thought that would make sense, so the expensive stuff will be safer.
